What decides whether a congress or conference works is the join between things. Between arrival and check-in. Between registration and the opening session. Between the closing speaker and a room that has to be turned for dinner.

Those joins are where quality is either visible or absent and they are the reason we run the hotel and the event as one operation rather than two. Accommodation, delegate movement, sessions, catering and technical sit with the same senior team, working from the same plan. Nothing is handed between suppliers and hoped for.

Delegates arrive across three days rather than one afternoon, on flights nobody controls, into accommodation spread over several hotels at several price points. Registration has to absorb hundreds of people in the first hour without a queue forming into the street. Parallel sessions have to start on time in rooms that were something else the night before. Shuttles have to run on a rotation that holds when a session overruns because one of them always does.

None of that is solved on the day. It is solved months earlier, in the rooming lists, the manifests, the run sheets and the supplier briefings, and then held together on site by people with the authority to make a decision without a phone call.

That is what twenty-five years in the industry and eighteen inside hotel operations actually buy you. Not enthusiasm. Judgement, under pressure, at any time of the day.
